A terrible tragedy is taking place in Ukraine, a war that should never have happened.
On August 24, Ukrainians both celebrated their National Day and at the same time lit up candles for those that perished in the war.
I didn't post this in previous months because in August it was a time of vacations and outdoors entertainment so this subject wouldn't have gotten the attention it should get.
Let the pigeons that flew overhead when they were chanting "Ukraina!" be a sign of peace, let's all hope that peace will come soon in Ukraine.
What stuck with me the most but is not visible in the video were the blue eyes that these Ukrainian women had, like the color in their flag, which is not so common around here, even though we're neighbors.
And that made one automatically think that they share the same blue eyes with the hundreds of thousands that are dying on the battlefield, which also kills future generations.
Then this in turn reminded about Otto von Bismarck's quote “Anyone who has ever looked into the glazed eyes of a soldier dying on the battlefield will think hard before starting a war.”
I wish that the war ends but until then, when I'll have a better camera, I want to film them up close when I get the chance. It's one thing seeing them on TV or in photos, one thing hearing about them as numbers and another thing when you look into their deep blue eyes next to you, you realize just how terrible and real what's going on in Ukraine is.
